Ashton Jacob Merrill was born October 18, 2004 in Upland, California. He is the youngest of six children and has one sister and four brothers. All of his four older brothers and his Dad are also Eagle Scouts. When Ashton was eight and began cub scouts, he set the goal to get his Eagle before he turned 14 years old, and he just accomplished that one week before his birthday!! He is currently in the 8th grade at Daycreek Intermediate School where he is on the High Honor roll and is an excellent student. He has enjoyed working as a TA and a peer tutor there. Ashton likes spending time with all his family and loves sports, especially playing basketball, swimming, rock climbing and skiing! He also plays the piano and loves to read.
His future plans after high school include serving a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and then attending Brigham Young University to study Business.
Ashton has had a wonderful experience in the scouting program. He enjoyed moving up through the ranks, attending scout camps, overnight hikes, helping with service projects, and earning 30 merit badges! His favorite merit badges were Rifle Shooting and Archery. He has had so many dedicated scout leaders over the years and we appreciate all their efforts. Ashton has learned many skills during his scouting years that shaped his character and will help him throughout his entire life!
For Ashton’s Eagle Project he organized a work crew at the Bellevue Memorial Cemetary in Ontario California. He led a group of 25 volunteers in sanding and repainting a fence surrounding the property. He showed great leadership skills as he planned, organized supplies, prepared for, instructed and worked with the volunteers. This project added beauty to the cemetery and will last for many years! Ashton enjoyed seeing the difference this project made to the community.
